Green Ganesha – Eco Friendly idol made in Mumbai 2015

Reactions:

Kranti Sarvajanik Mandal makes  21 feet eco friendly Ganesh Idol of Fibre

Gracing the humble locality of Koldongri in Andheri East, Mumbai is a 21 feet tall beautifully made Ganesh Idol of fibre.

The initiative supports the effort taken by the mandal to reduce marine life hazards and protect the green environment. Popularly known as the “Koldongricha Vighnaharta”; the fibre idol will be preserved after the 11 day festival while a smaller idol made of clay will be used for immersion.

The usual models are mostly made out of PoP which have always been flagged by environmentalists for causing pollution and causing harm to marine life. Not only does this serve as eco-friendly but also makes up for Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan.

We have been celebrating the festivals since last 4 decades and we want it to be beneficial to society at large. 4 years back we brought clay statue of 21 feet and due to shortage of artificial ponds in Mumbai it was difficult. Hence we thought of Fibre statue which is completely environment friendly. We also encourage other Ganeshotsav Mandals that brings in huge statues to adopt the Fibre statue model which will not only help the environment but also save a lot of money involved.” quotes Abhishek Vyas, Treasurer of Kranti Sarvajanik Mandal, Andheri.

Here’s wishing Kranti Sarvajanik Mandal all the best for the Go-Green initiative. They are truly an example for other mandals to follow.

I am gonna be there soon and I’ll be sharing a picture too. Have one already? Share it with me @not_a_sher and I shall tweet it out!
